Insurance companies don't want to pay out
Insurance companies are businesses. Understanding the way they operate will help you get the most out of your claim. If it seems like an insurance company is being difficult and dragging their feet, it's probably because they are. By doing as little as possible as slow as they can, they're hoping you'll lose interest, get frustrated, and give up. They do this using three tactics:
- Delay: they'll drag their feet and hope you're not willing to put in the work to fight for what you're owed
- Deny: Insurance companies will tell people they aren't owed any money, and sometimes people believe them!
- Defend: They've already made an enemy, what do they have to lose by kicking and screaming all the way to a fair settlement?
